What is Sage-ing?
Sage-ing is a way of living the second half of our lives that is joyful, fulfilling and beneficial. It involves personal and spiritual growth, making deeper connections with our friends and family, developing new passions and giving back through service to others.
The Sage-ing path offers growth and adventure in the aging process. You can think of it as an adventurous road map for growth for a vital, valued second half of life. It associates older age with continuing self development and provides a holistic vision of aging.
I became a Certified Sage-ing Leader in March, 2025
I am certified to lead Sage-ing workshops that will:
nurture you in a holistic way, that is, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.
open you to look at life in a new way as you grow older
allow you to harvest the wisdom of your life and find a way to transmit that wisdom as a legacy to future generations and to give back through service.
help you to make sense of your life experience and finding meaning.
support you in making conscious choices as you embark on a vital search for meaning and spiritual growth
Transform your lifetime of experience into forgiveness and wisdom
Transform your old resentments into blessings.
help to connect you with your own inner wisdom so that as as you become the elder that you want to be in the today’s world.
What is Conscious Aging?
Conscious aging workshops
My Conscious Aging workshops serve as an introduction to the vast curriculum available through Sage-ing International®. Introducing the core aspects of conscious aging fits within the first key concept in sage-ing which is focused on expanding elder consciousness. There are so many rich layers to this conversation that can be enhanced by conversations with friends, books, blogs and podcasts and a goodly amount of self reflection. I consider it the gateway to living a sage life!
Key aspects of conscious aging:
Looking inwardly at our own attitudes and fears about aging.
Challenging ageist beliefs and cultural myths that aging is a time of decline.
Approaching later stages of life with a sense of opportunity for continued personal and spiritual growth.
Embracing aging in both a mental and spiritual way rather than just letting it ‘happen’.
Becoming mindful of our holistic health and identifying what is truly meaningful.
Shifting focus to being over doing that allows greater awareness, wisdom and inner peace.
I invite you to dip your toe into the waters of the richness that awaits in the Sage-ing realm. When you are interested in a deeper dive into the full sage-ing curriculum, I offer the signature programs of Awakening the Sage Within® and Deepening the Sage Within®. These programmes are up to 20 hours of class time, are four to six weeks in length and require some willingness to share within the group.
A conscious aging workshop is a great place to start because the conversation never gets old, even though we do! Each day we are changed and the conversation begins anew.
Let me join you!
I would be delighted to offer a workshop to your existing group—friends, knitting circle, book club, or any gathering—to offer an engaging introduction to conscious aging and sage-ing.
Sage-ing as a spiritual practice
Sage-ing is a spiritual practice that involves harvesting the wisdom of our lives and finding ways to transmit that wisdom as a legacy to future generations.
Sage-ing’s Six Key Concepts
Sage-ing International focuses on transforming the aging process into a time of wisdom, growth, and purpose by engaging in a set of core concepts. The 6 key concepts of the Sage-ing® philosophy include:
Expanding Elder Consciousness: Shifting attitudes and fears about aging to embrace a new paradigm of elderhood, recognizing the potential for continued spiritual, emotional, and intellectual growth. Life Review: Reflecting on one's past experiences, both positive and negative, to find meaning and integrate learning from all life events.
Reviewing Our Lives: By reflecting on past experiences, both positive and negative, individuals can find patterns and meaning in their history, which helps define a renewed sense of purpose in their later years.
Repairing Our Relationships: Engaging in the work of healing past wounds, resolving regrets, and seeking or granting forgiveness in relationships with others and oneself.
Facing Mortality: Coming to terms with one's own death and the transient nature of life, which helps to clarify values and provide a new appreciation for the present.
Legacy-Leaving: Consciously preparing a legacy to pass on to future generations, which can include sharing values, life lessons, stories, or contributing to community and global well-being.
Service: Offering accumulated wisdom and gifts in service to family, community, and the world.
These concepts are often explored through workshops that sometimes include specific practices like meditation, journal writing, and participating in Wisdom Circles.
“My Sage-ing workshop got me thinking about how my life has been “built” not just by my experiences, but by my reactions to those experiences at the time they happened and how I think of them now.”
“It’s comforting to know there is a group of people asking these important questions about the meaning and purpose of old age and that there are fellow human beings who can support me on my journey as I figure out this next stage of my life. ”
“I don’t generally take time to reflect on my life, past and present, and just go on with the daily routine. The workshop gave me time to pause, reflect and perhaps see things in a different light and to appreciate the wisdom I have gained and how that is so delightful to realize and appreciate. I take gratitude in that realization.”
